How are the region’s governments improving security? Crime continues to be a burden on many Latin American countries. Some governments in the region have implemented zero-tolerance laws aiming to improve their situation, but that strategy doesn’t always work. Only a handful of countries focus on preventive strategies whereas the majority continue to apply reactive strategies. There are however, many improvements and some exceptional examples in the region, such as Chile, Costa Rica and Cuba, where the governments’ policies have effectively diminished crime statistics.
