LBC spoke with eight of our Top Businesswomen on what advice they would give women in the workplace, and what they wish they had known starting out.

While women in Latin America have continued to climb the corporate ladder and make up a growing percentage of the region’s workforce, gender parity in the top levels of management remains elusive. A McKinsey study last year revealed diverse reasons for this inequality, including the “double burden” of work and family obligations, a lack of mentorship and sponsorship, lack of female role models, and different approaches to work.

With these challenges in mind, Latin Business Chronicle asked a number of our Top Businesswomen two questions which we hoped could provide some advice to other women who hope to reach the upper echelons of the business world:

1) What advice would you give women who hope to make it to the top of their careers?

2) What do you wish you had known when you were just beginning your career?

The answers we received provide valuable insight on how to address the challenges women can face in the business world: from how to be a good manager, to appreciating women’s unique contributions to the workplace, addressing feelings of self-doubt that can hold women back, and the importance of education and self-improvement.

Their wisdom – from women who have been there and have made it to the tops of their careers -  is inspiring not just for women, but any professional.
