As predicted, Michelle Bachelet won Chile’s election on Sunday by a large margin. Indeed, at the close of campaigning on Thursday, Bachelet’s competitor Evelyn Matthei of the incumbent conservative Independent Democratic Union admitted it would “take a miracle” to beat the former president. This will mark a return to the presidency for Bachelet, who previously served in the role from 2006 to 2010.
