Brazil creates special ministry for small business

Experts consider the changes more a short-term fix than a lasting solution.

Since posting a disappointing 0.9 percent growth last year, Brazil has been searching for ways to boost the economy. To that end, President Dilma Rousseff announced the creation of a specialized ministry for small business this month that will cater to that sector’s needs. She also instituted changes to lending policy in hopes of boosting the sector. Experts tell Latin Business Chronicle the moves fall into the government’s economic pattern, but may be more of a short-term band-aid solution to the country’s deeper economic problems.
