Mexico Citys airport is getting better reviews from business travelers.

CITY –– Security screening assistants in wheelchairs welcome passengers going through check-point revisions at the airport here – greeting those departing and making connections with a smile, small talk and an unexpected dose of courtesy during a process many travelers would prefer to avoid.

The program of hiring screening assistants in wheelchairs, “Is proof that people with a disability can work,” says Christian Pastrana Maciá, adjunct director of commercial services for the Benito Juárez Mexico City International Airport (airport code MEX). Additionally, “They’re people who are friendly with the passengers, which is something you see at very few airports."

The welcoming employees in wheelchairs are just one of the factors for Mexico City ranking among Latin America’s best airports in a survey of business travelers by Latin Trade magazine, a  sister publication to Latin Business Chronicle. Amenities, convenience and comfort, especially in Terminal 2, add to the experience.

“The terminal (2) is very modern and for
Latin America rates as one of the top terminals,” say Ed Juline, a California native and founder of Guadalajara-based Mexico Represent, which acts as a manufacturer’s representative for firms wanting to do business in Latin America. “(There’s) a decent food selection, nice membership clubs, very good climate control and an overall good ambiance,” adds Juline, who, as a Platinum member of AeroMexico’s Club Premier, frequently makes connections through Terminal 2.
