Guarulhos (GRU) increased the number of passengers by 22.8 percent to 27.4 million, while Benito Juárez (MEX) saw a 0.5 percent decline to 24.1 million. That made the Mexican airport one of only three in Latin America to post declines.
Meanwhile, Lima’s Jorge Chávez (LIM) replaced Caracas’ Maiquetia (CCS) as the ninth-largest passenger airport in Latin America after seing a 17 percent increase to 10.3 million passengers. In contrast, Maiquetia only grew by 1.6 percent to 8.9 million passengers.
