If Brazilian retailer CBD were to merge with the Brazil unit of Carrefour, it would replace Walmex as the top retailer.

As speculation grows over the future of Brazilian retailer CBD, the Latin 500 shows that if it were to merge with the Brazilian operations of France-based Carrefour it would rank as it as Latin America’s largest retailer.
However, CBD has denied any merger talks. Meanwhile, CBD is jointly controlled by Brazilian Abilio Diniz and Carrefour rival, France-based Casino. The latter has formally requested arbitration with Diniz over their pact.
In the absence of any merger, Walmart de Mexico (Walmex) is Latin America’s top retailer, followed by the combined Latin America operations of Carrefour.
