Latin America: Profits Soar

Corporate profits in Latin America jumped 37 percent last year. Among the stars: Mining giant Vale.

Corporate profits in Latin America soared last year. The region’s 500 largest companies boosted their profits by 37.3 percent to $222.5 billion. Meanwhile, their revenues grew 21.5 percent to $2.2 trillion, according to the Latin 500 from Latin Business Chronicle and Latin Trade. The ranking is based on information from market researcher Economatica and individual companies.

 

Brazilian state oil giant Petrobras remains Latin America’s top company, both in terms of revenues and profits.

 

However, thanks to a strong increase in revenues, Brazilian mining company Vale sailed up to third place on the ranking compared with fifth place in last year’s ranking.
