Peru most dynamic market for Chinese products

  • Lima, Nov. 25 (ANDINA).- Peru is the most dynamic market for Chinese products in Latin America, in percentage terms, among the main partners of the Asian country, according to a study by Latin Business Chronicle based on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) indicators.

    Last year, Peru imported 2.77 billion dollars from China, 65.1 percent higher compared to 2007, and higher also than the number registered by other Chinese partners such as Brazil, which raised its imports by 65 percent.

    Among Latin American countries, only Bolivia had a better performance, growing 84.5 percent, but importing only 179 million dollars.

    Peruvian exports to China rose 8.8 percent to 4.67 billion dollars; increasing by 24.6 percent trade exchange with China, swhcih totaled 7.44 billion. 

    Peru is China's seventh commercial partner in Latin America, but the fifth biggest market for Chinese products, according to the Latin Business Chronicle study.

    Trade between China and Latin America posted a new record in 2008, reaching up to 140.01 billion dollars, that is, a 40.3 percent rise compared to 2007.

    Compared to trade between Latin America and markets such as the United States and Europe, it is three times as much.
