Telefonica and Vivo gain on the Latin Wireless Index, while America Movil and NII lose.

Although it lost its bid for Brazilian telecom company GVT last week, Spain-based Telefonica has no reason to be depressed. Its profits in Latin America are soaring and it’s one of the few wireless operators that is also boosting revenues, according to the Latin Wireless Index from Latin Business Chronicle. The index of the top ten wireless operators in Latin America compares their revenue performance in the last quarter to a year earlier.
Along with Brazil-based Vivo and TNL, Telefonica was among the only three carriers that posted third quarter growth in dollar terms.
“Latin America underlined its position as the Group’s growth engine,” Telefonica said in its earnings statement.
Telefonica, which derives more revenues from Latin America than from its home market of Spain or Europe, does not provide the figure for its total wireless revenues in the region.
