Latin America Jump for Adidas

Expanding distribution, along with solid demand, is boosting Adidas sales in Latin America.

Charlie Maurath, the Latin America head of Germany-based Adidas Group, has reason to be content these days.  “Within the Adidas Group, Latin America is the fastest growing region,” he says. “We had double digit-increases in most of Latin Americas major markets.”

 

Adidas, the worlds second-largest sporting-goods manufacturer, boosted Latin America sales last year by 42 percent to 893 million euro (US$1.2 billion). By comparison, global sales only grew by 5 percent. Even the fourth quarter, when several countries in Latin America were starting to see marked economic slowdowns, was strong thanks to a 42.3 percent increase in sales.
