Key appointments and promotions in Latin American business and technology.

Marcos Samaha has been named president of Wal-Mart Centroamérica. He assumes his new role in January.  Samaha, a native of Brazil, succeeds Ignacio Pérez, who will assume another high-ranking role within the company. Samaha joined Wal-Mart Brasil in 1999 and has since early this year been executive vice president for its retail division.

Fernando Vega Olmos, a legendary Argentine adman who is one of the leading creatives in the Spanish-speaking world, has been named creative chairman of Latin America and Continental Europe for U.S.-based JWT. He comes from Lowe Worldwide.

Ricardo Pineda has been named business development manager for Chile for U.S.-based BlueStar. The company also announced that Colombian native Susana Fonseca has joined the Latin American business-development program.

Claudio del Valle, Vitro's chief administrative officer, took over the duties of finance chief Enrique Osorio  after he recently resigned.  Osorio resigned shortly after Vitro's CEO also left the company.

Hermes Romero has been named manager of business development for Trustwave Latin America. He has more than 13 years of experience in the information security and networking industry, including working for such firms as IBM and Unisys. 

Carlos Arthur Barros has been named vice president for Latin America for Ixia.  Prior to joining Ixia, he served as general manager of the Latin America Region for Agilent Technologies. He also served in various sales and marketing capacities with Hewlett Packard.
