Colombia and Peru are helping boost Shearman & Sterling's business in Latin America.

While the capital markets in Latin America may have slowed down compared to last year, the regions project markets are growing. And that spells good news for law firms like Shearman & Sterling.
"The capital markets are complicated [but] the project markets are quite hot," says Antonia Stolper, a New York-based partner with the firm who specializes in corporate finance transactions in Latin America. "Theres quite a bit of M&A and structured type things and financial services."
Last year was an exceptional year in terms of IPOs thanks to the wave of offerings in Brazil. "2007 was an amazing year - Brazil was off the charts [and] the hottest IPO market in the world," Stolper says.
However, Brazil was not the only country with major IPOs the past year. Stolper, for example, was involved in IPOs in Argentina, Chile and Peru.
