PC Sales: LatAm Leads Growth

Latin America continues to be the fastest-growing PC market worldwide. Brazil and Peru lead the growth.

Shipments of personal computers in Latin America reached 6.3 million units in the first quarter,  market researcher Gartner announced last week. Last year, Latin American PC shipments reached a total of 24 milion units, which was 8.9 percent higher than in 2006 and also the highest increase anywhere.  "Many people believe Eastern Europe is ahead of Latin America [in growth]," he says. "The reality is different."

Gartner data shows:

  • U.S.-based Hewlett-Packard continues to be the market leader and widened its gap with U.S.-based Dell last year in Latin America.
