AvNews, Daily E-Mail Update, April 3, 2008

As the US media and everyone else is talking about a recession, here now or next month – few people are watching what is going on south of the border in Latin America, where not only is there no recession but business is booming, GDP growth is the best ever and foreign direct investment is at a record level. The exception – other than AvNews – is Latin Business Chronicle which has a number of recent articles which are worth mentioning. “Latin America Boosts US Companies” last week pointed out that Latin America is becoming increasingly important to US and European multinationals which are doing particularly well in the region. The article mentions its analysis of 25 major US and European companies which shows that Latin America grew faster than the companies’ overall expansion. In the case of 14 companies, which include American and Continental - Latin America accounted for the strongest growth worldwide. “Brazil: full speed ahead” in this weeks Chronicle talks about David Neeleman’sTudo Azul Airline” (our name for it) startup to begin domestic service in Brazil early next year. It also focuses on foreign automakers which plan to invest $4.9 billion in the country this year as well as other corporations moving to increase their presence in Brazil.
