Panama's Commerce Minister Resigns
Alejandro Ferrer has resigned as Panama's Commerce Minister, effective March 31, 2008. Carmen Gisela Vergara has been named as his successor. The 40-year old Ferrer won widespread praise from foreign companies for his handling of the ministry. He returns to private practice.
Tolosa VP for MTV Latin America
Jose Tolosa has joined MTV Networks Latin America as vice president of strategy and business development. Previously,Tolosa was senior vice president and chief operating officer at the HNMA Funding Company. He has also held senior-level positions with The Parthenon Group, Bear Stearns and Claxson Interactive Group. A native of Puerto Rico, Tolosa holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Accounting from Georgetown University.
Edmunds New CEO of CCAA
Anton Edmunds has been named President & CEO of Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA). He replaces Manuel Rosales, who had held the position for one year. Edmunds joined the management team of CCAA in 1998. He has served as director of marketing, director of programs, deputy executive director and executive director.
New Merrill Lynch Team in Brazil
Alexandre Bettamio, a former co-head of investment banking in Brazil for UBS-Pactual, has joined Merrill Lynch as head of investment banking for Brazil. Roderick Greenlees, a former head of the Brazilian mergers and acquisitions group at UBS-Pactual, joins Merrill Lynch as a managing director and senior member of Bettamio’s team. Hans Lin, a former head of Brazilian industrials and investment banking at UBS-Pactual, joins Merrill Lynch as a managing director to work alongside Bettamio. Sebastien Chatel, a former managing director and head of Latin America Equity Capital Markets at Credit Suisse, joins Merrill Lynch as co-head of Latin America Equity Capital Markets.
JPMorgan Extends, Changes LatAm Team
Mike McKenzie, JPMorgan’s treasury and security services executive for Latin America, has relocated to the bank’s regional headquarters in Sao Paulo. The firm also has recently hired Leonardo Lima as its new head of treasury and securities services in Brazil and treasury services product executive for Latin America and appointed Jose Antonio Serrano executive director and country head in Mexico.
Perillo Head of CentAm Marketing for Hilton
Luis Perillo has been appointed regional director of sales and marketing, Caribbean and Central America, for Hilton Hotels Corporation. He most recently served as general manager of the Hilton Barquisimeto in Venezuela.
New Latin America Real Estate Group
Thomas O’Connor, chair of the Real Estate Practice at Cooley Godward Kronish, will co-head the firm's new Latin America Real Estate Group along with Mark W. Lipschutz, who is Of Counsel to Cooley and CEO of the Caribbean Property Group.
