The Dominican real estate sector - already highly competitive - heats up with Donald Trump entering the fray.

Oscar de la Renta and Julio Iglesias, move over. Here comes Donald Trump.

The U.S. real estate mogul is building a luxury resort in the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean island-nation that already boasts real estate investments by Dominican-US fashion designer de la Renta and Spanish crooner Iglesias. 

The Dominican Republic, the third-largest tourism destination in Latin America, is seeing a boom in upscale real estate projects catering to local and foreign residents. The new resorts contrast with the already successful all-inclusive tourism industry in the country and are being encouraged by President Leonel Fernandez who once declared that he saw the Samana area in northeastern Dominican Republic as having the potential to become a Latin American Monte Carlo.
