Latin American Globalization Index

A globalization index has ranked Honduras fourth ahead of such countries as Chile, Uruguay and Mexico. This result was due to the nation having the second-highest number of imports in the region, and the third highest levels of tourism receipts and remittances as a percent of GDP.

The Latin American globalization index developed by Latin Buisiness Chronicle is an index of 17 countries that examines six factors that measure a countries links with the outside world. Factors include exports of goods and services as a per cent of GDP, imports of goods and services as a per cent of GDP, foreign direct investment as a percent of GDP, tourism receipts as a percent of GDP, remittances as a percent of GDP, and internet penetration.

The countries that belong to the CAFTA trade pact did well. Five of the top seven countries were CAFTA members. Latin Business Chronicle
