Argentina and Cuba: Union paradises

Argentina is the 13th most unionized country in the planet. Cuba tops the world ranking. Argentine trade unions are in the limelight these days as they have publicly contended president Mauricio Macri on his economic policies, which they consider harmful to the interests of the working class. They certainly have a say because unionized workers make close to 40% of all employees in the country. That is not necessarily the case in most other Latin American nations however, where Union Density (UD) – which measures the proportion of unionized employees to total employees -, is relatively low.
