Latin America’s commodities market: Unprecedented start to the year

Latin Trade spoke with Jodie Gunzberg, Global Head of Commodities at S&P Dow Jones Indices, for her view on the current commodities market in Latin America. Last year will go down as one of the worst ever for commodities, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices. It marked the third consecutive year of losses in the Indices’ history, losing 55.6 percent. That is also the fourth biggest annual loss in history since 1970. There were only two commodities that were winners last year: cocoa and cotton, with cocoa being the only commodity in the list of 24 to record positive numbers in the past five years.
